Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. August-Wilhelm Scheer

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. August-Wilhelm Scheer, born in 1941 founded the today’s IMC AG together with Dr. Wolfgang Kraemer, Frank Milius and Dr. Wolfgang Zimmermann in 1997. After the change to an incorporated company he became chairman of the supervisory board and main shareholder.
 
In 1975 Prof Scheer took over one of the first chairs for information systems and founded the institute for information systems (IWi) at the Saarland University. His research focuses on information and process management in industry, services and administration. His publications attract worldwide attention and were translated in 8 languages. In April 2005, Prof. Scheer gave off the leadership of IWi after 30 years of very successful work. He is still closely connected with science and research.
 
In January 2003, Prof. Scheer received the Philip Morris Research Award and was awarded the renowned prize "Entrepreneur of the Year" in the field of information technology by Ernst & Young International. In December 2005 he was awarded the Erich Gutenberg prize and in the same month the Federal Cross of Merit first class.

 

Since November 1999 Prof Scheer is representative for innovation, technology and research to the prime minister of Saarland. Additionally since May 2006 he is a member of the "Innovationsrat" (council for innovation) of the German chancellor.

 

On June 22th of 2007, Prof Scheer was elected President of the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM), the voice of the IT, telecommunications and new media industry in Germany.
