Jazz Improvisation and Management
Improvisation is the essence of Jazz music. Jazz soloists improvise new melodies on the spot that fit into the prescribed structure of a theme. In extremely short time spans the soloist makes irreversible decisions regarding the pitch of the note he will play, the expression that he will lend to it, and its rhythmic placement. Each note has an immediate effect on the next. The soloist’s play is in turn also influenced by his fellow players.
When in Saarbrücken, Professor Scheer not only plays with various young jazz talents, but also with experienced jazz bands, such as Oliver Strauch’s Groovin' High Group, whose range of styles extends from swing and bebop to jazz rock. This line-up has released a number of CDs, the latest of which is entitled "Oliver Strauch’s Groovin' High feat Randy Brecker".
