LIVECONTEXT Solves User Problems

Saarbrücken, 24th February 2011 – According to Gartner, context-aware computing will be one of the most important IT trends of 2011. Recognition of the digital working environment, which includes the application systems used, individual functions and cursor movements, combined with information about the user’s level of knowledge, facilitate highly efficient support when using software. This is exactly the service provided by the performance support system LIVECONTEXT. IMC AG, Europe’s leading supplier of learning, talent and content solutions, will be presenting the new release at this year’s CeBIT in Hannover at booth A46 (Hall 5).

When new software is introduced within a company, acceptance among end users often fails to meet expectations, as users can only actively recall 30% of newly acquired knowledge only 24 hours after a training session. Problems which occur during the actual use of the software are therefore bound to arise and the return on investment can easily be reduced to a shambles only a few days after the go live. This is a typical situation where LIVECONTEXT, which is based on the magic word “context”, is the ideal solution. On the basis of information about the application currently being used and the existing knowledge of the staff member, the system provides precisely the amount of support which is currently required. Instead of consulting colleagues, searching through thick handbooks for the right information and wasting a lot of time using trial & error methods, the user can access the required facts and instructions in mere seconds. “This information is provided directly within the application being used without any media break” explains Frank Milius, Member of the Board at IMC AG.

As it is very rare for all members of staff at a company to use the same software applications and to have the same level of prior knowledge, it is now possible to create individually tailored content packets for each user type with LIVECONTEXT 2011. "Every employee will be provided with precisely the information he actually needs”, says Milius. The significance of this form of intelligent software support is also clear from international analysts’ reviews: Gartner has even added “context-aware computing” at number 7 of the most important technology trends of 2011. The topic “video” was ranked in sixth place and is particularly appealing to younger learners.

The screen recording function in LIVECONTEXT 2011 allows webcasts, simulations and guides to be created and published within seconds. When using LIVECONTEXT, no existing knowledge is lost, as the company's own Wiki entries, web-based training and instructions can be integrated along with newly created support. However, if the information available is still insufficient, a query can be sent to the company's own support team via LIVECONTEXT. To clarify the support query, the user has the option of attaching a recording of the problem. This avoids laborious explanations and enquiries.

LIVECONTEXT does not only simplify the introduction of new software, but also guarantees the quality of logged data. The results of an Omikron study on the quality of logged data highlights the importance of this aspect. 84 percent of the companies questioned have recorded an error rate of over ten percent in their material master data.* Human errors during data logging are one of the main causes. Inconstant formats or minor entry mistakes, such as missing full stops in the domain section of an email address, can quickly lead to difficulties when relocating existing data and a loss of revenue due to misdirected mail. In LIVECONTEXT, the required format for entry fields can be pre-established for a wide variety of programmes. Errors will then be identified immediately. This will insure that the learner is constantly and efficiently “learning by doing”.
